Leaders Are Human Too

An open apology to all leaders: I'm sorry for where I have judged you and assumed to know better.

I see now, you were also human.

You were out there doing it, doing your best, and facing massive criticism while I was at home on the internet thinking I knew better.

Leaders are human too…

And it is my sincere wish that with future generations, leadership can look more like bearing our wounds.

Like being more human and normalizing ourselves, instead of the old archetype of pretending they need to have it all together for everyone else.

The fact someone is leading, simply means that they decided to take that position - not that they are ‘perfect’ or that they need to live up to our ideals of what leadership is.

Often, we forget this, and hence why so much of our shit gets projected on leaders.

“To lead means to wear the projections of others”  (quoting I believe  Ohad Pele).

As I move through this threshold of stepping more deeply into my own leadership I see different elements of it…

I see that people will care less about who I really am, or even bother to connect/understand, and will find it far more convenient to just throw judgements on me. I see that this relationship to leadership is considered ‘the norm.’

And I see it is easier for us as people to throw our power out on an external power figure, as opposed to actually self inquiring or becoming  self accountable and moving towards power ourselves. And really, it is SO much easier.

Because looking at it, well, that would make us accountable, and susceptible to all the same shit we project on others.

Some days I feel the aliveness of what I am doing. And other days, I just feel like it's all a little too much, and just want to sleep until all the bad people are gone away.
